Our Story

Brew Well Coffee LLC was formed by co-owners, Ryan Brewer and Anthony Fratantoni.  Both attended Owen J. Roberts School District and have been close friends for well over 20 years.  Getting together, making special memories and coming up with new and exciting ideas is something that has always existed with us, along with our close group of friends.  Discussions about inventing items and starting up businesses were frequent, and we’d be lying if we told you that coffee is the only business idea we have spent time talking about.  As we moved on from high school and went our separate ways, of course we kept in touch, but we spent time meeting new people and starting careers and families of our own.

After graduating college and starting our careers, the idea of working for ourselves and not having to answer to anyone else became more and more desirable.  Then one evening when sitting down with another very close friend, we again were brainstorming ideas of how we could work together to start a business.  It was a chilly evening, and we each had a fresh cup of coffee and the conversation went from everything from starting up a café of our own, to a donut shop on wheels.  While going through what we anticipated that those types of businesses would entail and what products we would provide for our customers, we began researching the coffee side of things.  The closer we looked, the more we were sold on coffee being a large part of our business.  At the time, coffee was a great supplemental aspect of what we were looking to do, and we also recognized that we could profit much more if we were able to roast our own coffee, and we found out very quickly that this is much easier said than done.  Nonetheless, over the span of months we continued to research the coffee side of the business, and it soon became clear to us that it made much more sense for our current circumstances with families and career, to just focus on coffee.  After all, we each thoroughly enjoy and are equally passionate about coffee.

Once we decided that we were going to go all in on Coffee, we started to reach out to experts all over the country to find out more.  Everything from types of beans, roasters and the roasting process, different styles of coffee drinks, packaging and labeling and all of the subtle intricacies associated with each entity of the coffee industry.  After years of trying all kinds of coffee based drinks, visiting roasters and talking to members of the coffee roasting community all over the country we had an opportunity to attend the 2019 Specialty Coffee Association Expo in Boston.  So we drove up for the weekend, and attending the expo was both incredible and overwhelming at the same time.  It opened our eyes to many aspects of the coffee business that really gave us the confidence needed to move forward with a specific direction and goals in mind.  We realized that the only way to do this right was to get our hands dirty and to start exploring different types of beans and establishing profiles that are both delicious and consistent.

From there we decided that there were so many options in terms of types of beans, how each of those beans could be roasted and many varying opinions from one roaster to the next.  We received a plethora of advice from many “experts”, and what we ultimately established was that, there is no right or wrong answer.  “We have our own taste buds, and we don’t need to someone to tell us what is supposed to taste good or how to drink our coffee.”  So we started to experiment ourselves through a great deal of trial and error.  We had an idea of what beans we enjoyed based on our extensive coffee drinking experience, but outside of that, we just started to roast beans in a variety of ways until we found what we believed to be the best.  We would try several different types of beans from each country origin, and then we would roast those beans through several different “profiles” logging the data as we went.  After taste testing beans weekly, we would hone in on our favorites, which is what we have available for you all today. It took a great deal of time and a financial commitment to get to where we are, but we are very proud and happy that we spent the time we did to bring you, what we consider to be, some of the finest coffee from all over the world, roasted to perfection to bring out the best flavors in each batch. We hope to grow and share our love for coffee with many, but we will always be “small batch” and committed to our quality versus our quantity.

We didn’t start with a huge 12kg roaster and call up experts to come “consult” (aka create a profile) with us.  We got our hands dirty, ordered a variety of beans from each country we selected and tested them with well over 100 profiles with our small batch roaster in our spare time.  This isn’t a business for us as much as it is a lifestyle, and we are proud to share our experience with you all.   We hope you enjoy our coffee as much as we do, and look forward to hearing about your experiences as we grow together!

Thank you to all of you who are taking the time to read this and have supported us to this point!  We can’t thank you enough and are very grateful!
